Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Dote: Dog & Cat Health ("Dote", "the App"), developed and operated by escapethematrix.app ("we", "us"). By downloading or using the App you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

Your licence to use the App is governed by Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the "Standard EULA") together with these Terms. If the two conflict, the Standard EULA applies to the licence, and these Terms add the App-specific points below.

1. Not a medical device, not veterinary care

Dote is a home-check companion. It estimates breathing rate, looks for an uneven step, measures body size, looks up safety information and keeps records. Dote is not a medical device. It does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any condition and is not a substitute for a veterinarian. It has not been evaluated by any regulator. Verdicts such as "Typical", "Recheck later", "Talk to your vet", "Toxic: keep away" and "Emergency" are guidance drawn from published veterinary sources (safety guide: ASPCA Animal Poison Control, Pet Poison Helpline and the Merck Veterinary Manual; emergency signs: VCA Animal Hospitals, the AVMA and Rabbit.org) and may be incomplete or out of date for your animal. If your pet seems unwell, or has eaten something you are unsure about, contact a veterinarian or an emergency clinic immediately. Never delay or skip veterinary care because of something the App shows.

2. Measurements and summaries are estimates

Camera, LiDAR and microphone checks depend on lighting, distance, movement, the device and your pet. Summaries written by Apple Intelligence on your iPhone can contain mistakes. Readings and summaries are estimates and can be wrong. Always confirm anything that worries you with your vet.

3. Eligibility and no account

You must be at least 13 years old (or the age of digital consent where you live) to use the App; if you are under 18, a parent or guardian must agree to these Terms for you. Dote has no accounts and no sign-in; purchases are tied to your Apple Account.

4. Your data

Everything you enter or capture, including reminders and any memorial for a pet in loving memory, stays on your device unless you export or share it. You are responsible for keeping backups (Settings → Export all data) and their passwords, which we cannot recover, and for what you share with others. Our Privacy Policy explains what the App does and does not collect.

5. Dote Pro: subscriptions, purchases and refunds

• Dote Pro is offered as auto-renewing weekly and yearly subscriptions and as a one-time lifetime purchase, sold through Apple's App Store. There is no free trial. The price and length of each option are shown in the App before you buy.
• Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase.
• Subscriptions renew automatically at the same price and length unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your Apple Account is charged for renewal within the 24 hours before the period ends.
• You can manage or cancel subscriptions in your Apple ID settings (iPhone Settings → your name → Subscriptions). Cancelling stops the next renewal; Pro stays active until the end of the period you paid for.
• The lifetime purchase is a one-time, non-renewing purchase. Use Restore purchases in the App to unlock it again on a new iPhone.
• All payments and refunds are handled by Apple under the App Store's terms. We cannot issue refunds ourselves; request one from Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
• Family Sharing may be available for Dote Pro where Apple allows it.
• We may change prices or what Pro includes for new purchases and new subscription periods. Apple notifies you of subscription price increases as its rules require; purchases you have already made are not affected.

6. Acceptable use

Do not use the App for any animal in a way that is unlawful or harmful, attempt to reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble it, or use its content (verdict text, illustrations, the Bloom and plant artwork) outside the App without permission. Share cards, ID cards, memory books and keepsake cards are for your personal use.

7. Intellectual property

The App, its artwork, text and code are owned by escapethematrix.app and protected by copyright, trademark and other laws. You receive a limited, personal, non-transferable licence to use the App on Apple devices you own or control, as set out in the Standard EULA. You may not remove any copyright or trademark notices or use our names or logos without written permission.

8. Disclaimer of warranties

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the App is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and accuracy of measurements, summaries or safety information. We do not promise that the App will be uninterrupted or error-free.

9. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, escapethematrix.app is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, for loss of data, or for any injury, illness, death or loss relating to an animal, arising from use of or reliance on the App. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for the App in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under the law where you live.

10. Indemnification

You agree to hold escapethematrix.app harmless from claims, losses and expenses arising from your misuse of the App or your breach of these Terms, to the extent permitted by law.

11. Apple-specific terms

• These Terms are between you and escapethematrix.app, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the App or its content.
• Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the App.
• If the App fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any). Apple has no other warranty obligation for the App.
• Apple is not responsible for addressing any claims by you or a third party relating to the App, including product liability, legal or regulatory claims, or intellectual property claims.
• Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.

12. Changes and termination

We may update the App or these Terms; material changes are shown in the App or on this page with a new date. Continuing to use the App after a change means you accept it. You may stop using the App at any time by deleting it; your data goes with it unless you exported it. We may stop offering the App on the App Store at any time.

13. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which escapethematrix.app operates, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, to the extent consumer protection law where you live does not require otherwise. For users in the European Union, the laws of your country of residence apply. If a dispute arises, please contact us first so we can try to resolve it.

14. Severability and entire agreement

If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. These Terms, the Standard EULA and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us about the App.
