A pet ID card whose QR code shows whoever finds them your number, with your vet and microchip details. If they go missing, Dote makes a lost-pet poster in seconds: a recent photo, where they were last seen, the microchip and a scan-to-call code, ready for neighbours, local groups and shelters. Write the same details to a $1 NFC collar tag, and anyone who taps it with their phone is offered your number.

What Dote changes for you, in the order you'll meet it.

Emergency signs in plain words, based on VCA Animal Hospitals, the AVMA and Rabbit.org, with one tap to find an emergency vet near you.
For dogs: a Today card warns about hot pavement that can burn paws, heatstroke weather, icy paths, storms and fireworks nights, and suggests a better time. A green light shows how fresh the forecast is. Apple Weather is asked once when you turn it on, then only when you tap reload, and your location isn't stored by Dote.

Dote checks the U.S. FDA's pet food recall list once a day and shows a card on Today if a food brand you saved for your pet is on it. The full list is in Safety.
Reminders with a one-tap "Given", a pet-sitter sheet, and Add to Calendar. Scan a medicine label and Dote fills in the reminder for you to check. Turn on "Ring like an alarm" for a medicine and it rings even in Silent mode, with Snooze and a "Dose due" card on the Lock Screen. "Reported side effects" shows what owners and vets have reported to the U.S. FDA for that medicine.
Dote listens while they sleep and summarises the night in the morning. A Live Activity on the Lock Screen shows how long it has been listening and the sounds heard so far. Audio is analysed live, never recorded.
Ask “Has Luna's weight changed?” and Apple Intelligence answers on your iPhone, using only your pet's own records. On iPhones with Apple Intelligence. It never diagnoses.
A daily calorie guide for dogs and cats from the 2021 AAHA guidelines, a starting point to adjust with your vet. Score their body shape from 1 to 9, described in plain words.
If your pet has a seizure or another episode, one big button times it, and you can film it for your vet. Vets ask for how long it lasted and a video.
For rabbits and guinea pigs, a daily check-in asks if eating and droppings are normal. If not, Dote shows the advice to call your vet the same day.
If a weigh-in is 5% or more below your pet's usual, a card on Today suggests weighing again in a few days and talking to your vet if it keeps dropping.
Tap-to-count breathing, medicines due and your pet's plant as a complication, synced from your iPhone.

Point your iPhone at your sleeping dog or cat for 30 seconds. Dote watches the chest rise and fall with the camera (on iPhone Pro models also with the LiDAR depth sensor), counts each breath on screen as it finds them and estimates the breathing rate on the phone. Nothing is uploaded. Camera breathing for cats is newer and less tested than for dogs. Tap-to-count, the method vets teach, is always free and works for every pet, including rabbits, guinea pigs and birds. Settings → How Dote measures explains each method and its limits.
No. Dote gives you a resting breathing rate, a walk check and safety verdicts based on ASPCA Animal Poison Control, Pet Poison Helpline and the Merck Veterinary Manual, in plain words. It tells you when a reading is above your pet's own limit so you can call your vet. It never diagnoses.
Your pet's records don't. Dote has no account, no servers of its own and no analytics. Camera and microphone checks run on your iPhone; photos, clips and records stay in the app. A few features go online: walk weather asks Apple Weather for your local forecast (your location goes to Apple and isn't stored by Dote), Find an emergency vet near me uses Apple Maps, food recall alerts download the U.S. FDA's public recall list and match it on your iPhone against the food brands you saved, and Reported side effects sends openFDA only the medicine's active ingredient and the species. If Dote crashes, an anonymous crash report is sent the next time you open it; you can turn this off in Settings → Privacy. You can export everything as one password-protected, encrypted file at any time.
Dogs and cats get every camera check; camera breathing for cats is newer and less tested than for dogs. Rabbits, guinea pigs and birds get tap-to-count breathing, Is it safe?, emergency signs, the diary, records and the plant, and rabbits and guinea pigs get a daily eating-and-droppings check-in. Each species has its own flower in the app.

Edit your pet and turn on In loving memory, then choose the date. Checks and photo reminders stop, birthday reminders become gentle remembrance messages, and they get a quiet space on Today: their sticker breathing at their last recorded rate, a candle you can light each day, their photos, a memory book PDF and a keepsake card. Nothing is uploaded, and you can turn it off again in the same place.
