Will my Apple Watch get Readiness?
Only Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 get Apple's new Readiness score, according to Apple's 9 September 2026 announcement and its What's new in watchOS 27 guide. watchOS 27 itself runs on Series 9 and later, SE 3 and Ultra 2 and later, but installing it on those watches does not add Readiness. Facts on this page come from Apple's own pages, checked on 4 October 2026: the Apple Newsroom announcement Apple advances health and fitness capabilities using Apple Intelligence (9 September 2026), Apple unveils Apple Watch Ultra 4, Apple Support's What's new in watchOS 27 and Identify your Apple Watch. Apple notes that not all features are available on all devices or in all regions.

What Apple's Readiness does
Apple describes readiness as a daily read on your body's capacity. It analyses your recent activity, vitals and sleep score and gives a single 0–10 score each day with one of four recommendations: Recover, Pace Yourself, Ready or Go For It. The score updates through the day as new data comes in — after a hard workout, for example — and highlights which factors are driving it. Apple says the scoring algorithm was developed using data from the Apple Heart and Movement Study.
Apple presents readiness as part of the new Health Sensing System in Series 12 and Ultra 4, which has new optical and electrical heart sensors and measures heart rate every five seconds and HRV as often as every five minutes. That hardware link is why a software update alone does not bring the feature to older watches.
If your watch doesn't get Readiness
Plenty of iPhone apps calculate their own readiness or recovery score from the data your Apple Watch already saves to Apple Health. These scores use different inputs and scales, so they are not interchangeable with Apple's 0–10 score or with each other.
Body Vitals (made by the publisher of this site) is one option. Per its App Store listing, it computes a 0–100 readiness score on your iPhone from Apple Health, weighing HRV against your own baseline plus sleep quality, resting heart rate, blood oxygen and training load, and after 90 days it is calibrated to you. There is no account and no server: every score is computed on the iPhone, and HealthKit access is read-only. The free tier includes the widgets and the readiness score. It needs iOS 26 or later; the optional Apple Watch app is part of the paid full version and needs watchOS 26 or later. Older watches record fewer metrics, so fewer inputs may be available.
You can also see how a 0–100 readiness score responds to its inputs with the readiness score calculator, or put your HRV in context with normal HRV by age.
Body Vitals — a readiness score from your Apple Health data
A 0–100 readiness score from the HRV, sleep and heart data already in Apple Health, on your Home Screen and Lock Screen. Computed on your iPhone; no account, no cloud.

Which Apple Watch models support Readiness?
Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4. Apple's 9 September 2026 newsroom announcement says the two watches introduce readiness, and Apple's What's new in watchOS 27 guide lists the Readiness app for Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 only.
Does updating to watchOS 27 add Readiness to my older Apple Watch?
No. Apple says watchOS 27 is available for Apple Watch Series 9 or later, Apple Watch SE 3 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 or later, but it lists the Readiness app only for Series 12 and Ultra 4. Apple ties readiness to the new Health Sensing System in those two watches, so a Series 11, Ultra 3 or SE 3 on watchOS 27 does not get it.
What does Apple's Readiness score measure?
Apple says readiness analyses your recent activity, vitals and sleep score and gives a single 0-10 score each day with one of four recommendations: Recover, Pace Yourself, Ready or Go For It. The score updates through the day as new data comes in and shows which factors are driving it. Apple says the algorithm was developed using data from the Apple Heart and Movement Study.
Will Apple bring Readiness to Series 11 or Ultra 3 later?
Apple has not announced that. As of 4 October 2026 its newsroom and watchOS 27 user guide list Readiness for Series 12 and Ultra 4 only. Apple also notes that not all features are available on all devices or in all regions.
Can I get a readiness score with an older Apple Watch?
Not Apple's, but third-party iPhone apps can compute their own score from the data your watch already saves to Apple Health. Body Vitals, made by the publisher of this site, computes a 0-100 readiness score on your iPhone from HRV against your own baseline, sleep quality, resting heart rate, blood oxygen and training load. It is a different score with a different method, not a copy of Apple's Readiness.
How do I find out which Apple Watch I have?
On your iPhone, open the Apple Watch app, tap My Watch, then General, then About, and check the Model Number. Apple's Identify your Apple Watch page lists every model by model number.
