Frequently Asked Questions
What is FitStation (Institution Mode)? How do I join or create an institution?
FitStation (Institution Mode) is for schools, gyms, and studios. It lets you track group workout sessions, view leaderboards, and share stats with your institution. To get started:
- On the sign-in screen, tap "Setting up for a school, gym, or studio?"
- Enter an invite code to join an existing institution, or create your own (no passcode needed).
- Sign in with Apple.
- Purchase an Institution subscription (Monthly $19.99 with 7-day free trial, or Lifetime - one-time purchase, price varies by region; see in-app paywall).
Institution subscriptions are separate from personal plans (Monthly, Annual, Lifetime). Your personal subscription does not include Institution mode. You need an Institution product to activate kiosk mode, link your device to the institution, and access leaderboards and group stats. Once set up, you can complete workouts that count toward the institution's leaderboard and share institution leaderboard or stats cards. See the "Institution Mode (FitStation) - How It Works" section above for a complete guide on kiosk mode, challenges, and more.
How do I share my workouts?
You can share workout cards in two ways:
- After a workout: Tap "Share your win" on the completion screen to share the session you just finished.
- From Profile: Tap "Share your progress" to share summarized stats for Today, This Week, This Month, This Quarter, or This Year.
Tap "Surprise me" to cycle through gradient styles. Every card shows "Crushed with AI Rep Counter On-Device" and "AI-powered rep tracking. Every win counts." Share to Messages, Instagram, or any app via the system share sheet.
What is voice feedback and how do I use it?
Voice feedback lets you hear your rep count and milestone celebrations during workouts without looking at the screen. Go to Settings → Workout Feedback. Under "Rep count sound" you can choose: Default sound (a short beep per rep), Voice (Male), or Voice (Female). When voice is selected, each rep is spoken aloud (e.g. "5", "10") and at 10, 25, and 50 reps you'll hear a short celebration phrase (e.g. "Double digits! Keep going!"). Voice applies to all exercise types. A 3-2-1 countdown plays once when you get into position at the start of each workout; voice is pre-loaded during this countdown so the first rep is announced without delay. If you leave position during a workout, you'll see the "Get in Position" indicator and green active counting when back - the countdown does not repeat.
What are AI Rep Counter On-Device widgets? What do they show and how do I add one?
Widgets are 100% free for every user. No sign-in, no subscription, no catch. The "Workout Stats" widget shows: total reps, total sessions, current streak (consecutive days with at least one workout), best single-session rep count, last workout (reps + exercise name, e.g. "28 Push-Ups"), workouts this week, total time, exercise variety (X/11 exercises), relative time (Today, Yesterday, 2d ago), and progress toward your next rep or workout milestone with motivational messages (e.g. "So close!", "Crushing it!"). Small and medium sizes are available. How to add: Long-press your home screen → tap the + button → search for "AI Rep Counter On-Device" or "Workout Stats" → choose Small or Medium → Add Widget. The widget updates shortly after each workout and when you open the app. Works with local data, so it's available even if you never sign in.
Do I need to sign in to use the app?
No! Sign-in is optional. You can use all core workout tracking features immediately without signing in. Simply tap "Continue without signing in" on the sign-in screen. Your workout data will be stored locally on your device. If you want premium features like cloud sync, advanced analytics, unlimited sessions, cross-device access, or notifications, you can sign in with Apple at any time. When you tap a locked feature (e.g. Progress Insights in Metrics or Notifications in Settings), you see a Premium screen that lists what is included and a Sign in with Apple button - tap Back to stay in local-only mode. Automatic prompts after milestones are rate-limited (no more than 3 times per week). When you sign in, you can open subscription options from Settings; Monthly and Annual include a 2-day free trial when you subscribe.
What is the Premium upsell or upgrade screen (local-only)?
If you use the app without signing in (local-only), you may see a Premium screen when you tap a locked feature (e.g. "Unlock Progress Insights" in Metrics or "Unlock Notifications" in Settings) or after certain milestones (e.g. 5+ workouts, 3+ day streak, first workout). It lists what Premium includes and offers Sign in with Apple so you can pick Weekly, Monthly, Annual, or Lifetime on the next step. Tap Back to return without signing in - your data stays on your device. Automatic prompts (after milestones) are rate-limited so they appear at most 3 times per week; tapping a locked feature shows the screen whenever you need it.
How do I start a workout?
You can start using the app immediately! If you're a new user, you can either sign in with Apple (optional) or tap "Continue without signing in" to use local-only mode. If you sign in, you'll go directly to the app - no username required. You can optionally set a username later from the Profile screen if you wish. Once you're on the welcome screen, select your exercise type (Push-Ups, Squats, Jumping Jacks, Hip Abduction Standing, Lunges, Calf Raises, Biceps Curls (also supports hammer curls and alternate curls - regular and hammer, and 7-7-7 mode), Front Raises, Lateral Raises, Overhead Dumbbell Press, or Pull Ups) and tap "Begin Session" to start. Position your device in portrait mode so your full body is visible in the front camera - place it on the ground, use a tripod, shelf, or prop it at eye level. Ensure good lighting, step back until full body is detected, then get into position. A 3-2-1 countdown plays once when you're in position; after that, reps are counted automatically. If you leave position during the workout, the status bar shows "Get in Position" and green "Counting [exercise]" when you're back - the countdown does not repeat until your next session.
Do I need to create a username when I sign in?
No, username creation is completely optional. When you sign in with Apple, your User ID (provided by Apple) serves as your primary account identifier. You can start using the app immediately after signing in. If you wish, you can optionally create a username later from the Profile screen for display purposes. Your username can contain letters, numbers, and underscores, and must be 1-8 characters long. You can change or remove your username anytime from the Profile screen in the app.
Can I change my username later?
Yes! You can change your username at any time from the Profile screen in the app. Simply tap on your username and enter a new one. Your username must be 1-8 characters and can only contain letters, numbers, and underscores. The change will be synced to your account automatically. Note: If you sign out, your username will be cleared from the device for privacy. When you sign back in, you'll need to set a username again (or it will be restored from the cloud if you had one previously).
What exercises are supported?
Currently, the app supports Push-Ups, Squats, Jumping Jacks, Hip Abduction Standing, Lunges (Regular and Side modes), Calf Raises, Biceps Curls (also supports hammer curls and alternate curls - regular and hammer, and 7-7-7 mode), Front Raises, Lateral Raises, Overhead Dumbbell Press, and Pull Ups. You can switch between exercises on the welcome screen and filter your metrics by exercise type on the Metrics screen.
What is Privacy Mode?
Privacy Mode is available in Settings (and in FitStation Settings when in institution mode). It has two options, both processed on your device only: Focus on Me blurs the background during workouts so only you stay in focus; Blur Face blurs your face for extra privacy (Blur Face requires Focus on Me to be on). No video or images are sent to our servers. Turn either option on or off anytime from Settings.
What is the ROM bar?
The ROM (range of motion) bar is a live indicator on screen during every workout. It shows where you are in each rep - bottom to top - so you know exactly when you've hit the full range. A moving marker (orb) tracks your position; extend past the target line (e.g. yellow line) then return to bottom to count a rep. The bar dynamically tracks your body position - aligning with the joint being measured (e.g. knee level for squats, torso level for arm exercises). It stays at the edge of the screen so it doesn't block your view. Every exercise type has one - a gamified way to see your range of motion in real time.
I'm on iPad. Do on-screen guides match the camera view?
On iPad, the app keeps the live workout guides (including the ROM bar) and rep tracking aligned with what you see in the front camera. Update to the latest version for the best experience. If anything looks off, use the same tips as below: portrait mode, full body in frame, good lighting, and a steady placement (tripod, shelf, or stand work great on iPad).
The app isn't counting my reps correctly. What should I do?
For best accuracy:
- Ensure you're in good lighting
- Position your device in portrait mode so your full body is visible in the front camera (ground, tripod, shelf, or eye-level mount)
- Step back until full body is detected, then come closer and get into proper position facing the front camera
- For Push-Ups: Get on the ground with arms straight (plank position) before the countdown starts - the 3-2-1 countdown only begins when you're in proper position, not when standing. Complete full motions (from top position to bottom and back up). Reps count at any pace (fast or slow) in both Beginner and Advanced modes.
- For Squats: Complete full squat motions (from standing to squat down and back up)
- For Jumping Jacks: Complete full motions (arms and legs closed together in standing position, then spread wide, then back together)
- For Hip Abduction Standing: Lift one leg sideways away from your body, then return to starting position. You can do all reps with one leg or alternate between legs.
- For Lunges: Choose between Regular (forward) or Side (lateral) modes. Regular: Step forward with one leg, bend both knees to 90°, then push back to standing. Side: Step sideways with one leg, bend the stepping leg, then return to standing.
- For Calf Raises: Stand with your full body in frame. Rise onto the balls of your feet, pause briefly at the top, then lower with control through a full range. Use the ROM bar to reach the top and bottom targets so each rep registers cleanly.
- For Pull Ups: Face the camera so your upper body and arms are in view; position the pull-up bar so the bar and your arms are visible. Start with arms extended (hanging). Pull up until chin is over the bar (elbows bent past the yellow line on the ROM bar), then lower until you reach a clear hanging position with arms extended again before starting the next pull. As of v2.9, rep counting is more responsive on that return to full extension, but you still need good lighting and a clear view of the bar and your arms.
- Use the ROM bar (every workout has one) to see your range of motion in real time - extend past the target line then return to bottom so each rep counts.
- Make sure you're in proper position before starting
- Keep the camera steady and at a good angle
What does the stats bar at the top of the main screen show?
The green-and-blue stats bar just below the app title shows four metrics for your workout activity:
- Streak - Consecutive calendar days with at least one completed workout, ending on your most recent workout day. If you haven't worked out today, the streak counts up to yesterday.
- Reps Today - Total reps from all workouts on the current calendar day (today in your device's time zone).
- Active Today - Total workout time today (sum of session durations for the current day), shown in minutes (e.g. 5m) or hours and minutes.
- vs Last Week - Percentage change in total reps: this calendar week compared to the previous calendar week (e.g. +20% means you did 20% more reps this week than last). Shown only when last week had at least one rep so a comparison is possible.
These metrics are the same whether you are signed in or not. When you are signed in, the numbers are based on your full workout history, including sessions synced from the cloud (so they reflect all devices and backup data). When not signed in, they use only the sessions stored on this device.
How do I view my workout history and progress?
On the main screen, the top stats bar gives you a quick snapshot: streak, reps today, active time today, and change vs last week. Navigate to your Profile screen to see your total sessions, total reps, and best session. Tap "Metrics" to view detailed charts and analytics. On the Metrics screen, select an exercise type at the top (Push-Ups, Squats, Jumping Jacks, Hip Abduction Standing, Lunges, Calf Raises, Biceps Curls, Front Raises, Lateral Raises, Overhead Dumbbell Press, or Pull Ups) to view exercise-specific statistics. The Progress Trend chart shows faint daily bars (your raw daily numbers) with a bold 7-day rolling average line overlaid - this smooths out single-day spikes so you can clearly see whether you are improving over time. A legend at the top of the chart explains both layers. The Daily Summary chart below shows each day's total as bars so you can spot your most and least active days. Switch between Reps, Sessions, and Duration tabs to see different aspects of your training. Adjust the date range (7 Days, 30 Days, 3 Months, All Time, or Custom) to zoom in or out. You can also access the Workout Calendar from the Activity screen to see your workout history in a visual calendar format, where you can tap any date to view all sessions from that day.
How does the Workout Calendar work?
The Workout Calendar provides a visual overview of your fitness journey. Here's how to use it:
- Accessing the Calendar: Navigate to the Metrics screen and tap on the calendar icon or section to open the Workout Calendar view.
- Interactive Calendar View: Navigate through months using the month navigation controls. Each day with a workout is highlighted, making it easy to spot your active days and identify patterns in your fitness routine.
- Viewing Session Details: Tap any highlighted date to see all your workout sessions from that day. You'll see rep counts, duration, exercise types (e.g. Push-Ups, Squats, Jumping Jacks, Hip Abduction Standing, Lunges, Calf Raises, Biceps Curls (also supports hammer curls and alternate curls - regular and hammer, and 7-7-7 mode), Front Raises, Lateral Raises, Overhead Dumbbell Press, Pull Ups), and timestamps for each session.
- Consistency Tracking: The calendar helps you maintain your workout streak by making your progress visible. Instantly see which days you worked out and which days you missed, helping you build lasting fitness habits.
- Visual Indicators: Days with workouts are visually distinguished, allowing you to quickly assess your consistency and identify gaps in your routine.
The calendar view is perfect for reviewing your progress over time and understanding your workout patterns at a glance.
How does the free trial work?
The free trial is included with Monthly or Annual subscription purchase via StoreKit2 introductory offers. When you purchase Monthly or Annual, you receive a 2-day free trial with full access to all premium features (cloud sync, advanced analytics, unlimited sessions). The trial starts when you start the subscription in the purchase flow. You can cancel at any time during the trial period without being charged (per Apple's subscription management). Weekly has no trial; Lifetime is a one-time purchase with no trial. If you use the app without signing in, all core workout tracking features are available without a trial; premium features require sign-in and a subscription or Lifetime purchase.
How do I cancel my subscription?
You can cancel your subscription anytime through your Apple account settings:
- Open Settings on your iPhone
- Tap [Your Name] → Subscriptions
- Select "AI Rep Counter On-Device"
- Tap "Cancel Subscription"
Your subscription will remain active until the end of the current billing period, and you'll continue to have access to premium features until then.
How do I restore my purchases?
If you've previously purchased a subscription, go to Settings in the app and tap "Restore Purchases". This will restore your subscription if you're signed in with the same Apple ID used for the original purchase. This is useful if you've reinstalled the app or are using it on a new device. Note: Subscription management options (including "Restore Purchases") are only available for signed-in users. Non-signed-in users will see a "Sign In for Premium Features" prompt instead.
How do I delete my account?
Regular mode: Go to Settings → Account → Delete Account. You'll be asked to confirm twice before your account and all associated data (workout history, profile information, synced data) are permanently deleted. This action cannot be undone.
FitStation (Institution mode): Delete Account in institution Settings only unclaims institutions and leaves - your personal account and workout data remain in the cloud. You are signed out and returned to the sign-in screen. To request permanent removal of your account and data (GDPR), tap "Request Data Deletion" in the success alert - this opens an email to support with your User ID and details pre-filled; just review and send.
Account deletion options are only available for signed-in users. If you're using the app without signing in (local-only mode), your data is stored only on your device. You can delete the app to remove all local data, or sign in first if you want to use the account deletion feature.
Can I sign out of my account?
Yes, if you're signed in with Apple, you can sign out from Settings → Account → Sign Out. Signing out will clear your local session and username, but will not delete your account or cloud data. Your workout data will remain synced in the cloud, and you can sign back in anytime to access it. When you sign out, your username is cleared from the device to ensure privacy. Note: Sign out and account deletion options are only available for signed-in users. If you're using the app without signing in, there's no account to sign out from.
What does "Manage Subscription" do?
"Manage Subscription" opens Apple's subscription management screen, which allows you to view your active subscriptions, subscription history, restore previous purchases, and manage or cancel subscriptions. This option is available for all signed-in users, even if you don't currently have an active subscription. If you have an active subscription, you can view or cancel it. If you don't have an active subscription, you can restore previous purchases or view your subscription history. This follows Apple's standard iOS pattern for subscription management.
Where is my workout data stored?
Local-Only Mode (Without Sign-In): If you use the app without signing in, your workout data is stored locally on your device only. It is never sent to our servers. You can track workouts, view local metrics, and access all core features. Premium features like cloud sync, advanced analytics, and unlimited sessions are not available in local-only mode. The app will show "Sign In for Premium Features" in Settings instead of subscription options.
With Sign-In: Your workout data is stored securely on your device and automatically synced to the cloud when you sign in with Apple and reach the main screen. The app fetches your last year of workout history during this initial sync. After that, your data is cached locally for fast access, and new workouts you complete are automatically synced to the cloud. This ensures your data is backed up and accessible across all your devices. All data is encrypted both in transit and at rest. With sign-in, you can access premium features through subscription.
Can I use the app without an internet connection?
Yes! You can use the app offline to track workouts. Your sessions will be saved locally on your device and automatically synced to the cloud when you have an internet connection. The AI pose detection works entirely on-device, so no internet is needed for counting reps.
What devices are supported?
AI Rep Counter On-Device requires iOS 18.0 or later. You'll need a device with a camera for pose detection. The app works on iPhone and iPad models that meet these requirements.
I'm having issues with Sign in with Apple. What should I do?
Make sure you're signed into iCloud on your device and have two-factor authentication enabled for your Apple ID. If you continue to have issues, try:
- Signing out and back in
- Restarting the app
- Checking your internet connection
- Ensuring your device software is up to date
How do I sync my data manually?
Cloud sync is only available if you sign in with Apple. Go to Settings in the app and tap "Sync Data" to manually trigger a sync. The app automatically syncs your workout data once when you sign in and reach the main screen, fetching the last year of your workout history. After that, your data is cached locally for fast access. New workouts you complete are automatically synced to the cloud. You'll see a "Last Sync" timestamp in Settings showing when your data was last synchronized. If you're using local-only mode, your data stays on your device and sync is not available.
How do notifications work?
Notifications are available only if you sign in with Apple. AI Rep Counter On-Device offers personalized local notifications to help you stay motivated:
- Workout Reminders: Get daily reminders at your preferred time to help you maintain consistency. You can customize the reminder time and select which days of the week you want to be reminded.
- Progress Updates: Receive weekly summaries every Sunday showing your workout statistics for the week (sessions and reps).
- Milestone Achievements: Celebrate your wins! Get notified when you hit major milestones like 100 sessions, 1,000 reps, and more.
All notifications are
local (sent from your device) and work offline. You can enable or disable any notification type in Settings. Notifications are personalized based on your workout history and progress. You can customize reminder times and days to fit your schedule.
Can I customize my notification settings?
Yes! Go to Settings in the app to customize your notifications:
- Enable or disable workout reminders
- Set your preferred reminder time
- Choose which days of the week you want reminders
- Toggle weekly progress updates on or off
- Enable or disable milestone achievement notifications
All notification preferences are stored locally on your device and can be changed at any time.
Is my data private and secure?
Absolutely! All AI processing happens on your device-your workouts never leave your phone. Your workout data is encrypted and stored securely. We don't share your workout data with third parties. All notifications are local (sent from your device) and don't require internet connection. For more details, see our
Privacy Policy.

Tips for Best Results
- Use front view: Position your device in portrait mode so your full body is visible in the front camera - place it on the ground, use a tripod, shelf, or prop it at eye level. Step back until full body is detected, then get into proper position
- Good lighting: Ensure adequate lighting in your workout area
- Full motions: Complete full exercise motions (for Push-Ups: down to bottom and back up; for Squats: down to squat position and back to standing; for Jumping Jacks: arms and legs in closed standing position and then spread both arms and legs together wide then back to closed standing position; for Hip Abduction Standing: lift leg sideways away from body then return to starting position at your side; for Calf Raises: rise onto the balls of your feet and lower through heels with control)
- Stable camera: Keep the camera steady and at a good angle
- Proper position: Wait for the app to confirm your position before starting. The 3-2-1 countdown plays only once at the start of each workout. If you leave position during a workout, you'll see "Get in Position" and green active counting when back - the countdown does not repeat. For Push-Ups, the countdown only starts when you're on the ground with arms straight (plank position)
- Exercise selection: Choose the correct exercise type (Push-Ups, Squats, Jumping Jacks, Hip Abduction Standing, Lunges, Calf Raises, Biceps Curls (also supports hammer curls and alternate curls - regular and hammer, and 7-7-7 mode), Front Raises, Lateral Raises, Overhead Dumbbell Press, or Pull Ups) before starting your session. For Lunges, you can switch between Regular (forward) and Side (lateral) modes during your workout
